What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle hands on complementary healing technique which helps maximise the potential energy in the body and restores balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit. Reiki is a natural stress buster. Reiki works not only on a physical level but promotes relaxation, a sense of wholeness and well-being and encourages self awareness, personal growth and spiritual development.
Reiki is used throughout the world by people of all creeds and belief systems. Originally practiced in Japan since the 1930′s, Reiki became popular in the west in the late 1980’s. Today Reiki is used all over the world as a complement to conventional medicine and therapies.
Because Reiki is one of the most advanced natural stress busters, rehabiliation and therapy centres and many businesses are now availing of Reiki for their staff and more and more health spas and wellness centres are offering Reiki.
The word ‘Reiki’ itself comes from two Japanese words ’rei’ and ‘ki’. ‘Rei’ can be translated as universal or all around us, and ‘ki’, meaning life force energy, sometimes referred to as “chi” or “prana” or more commonly our magnetic field. It can be simply translated as universal life force energy or the energy that surrounds all of life. It is when our “magnetic field” or “life force energy”, “chi” or “prana” is in balance that we feel healthy, clear, energetic and postitive about life.
